Honda has officially confirmed that the new, sixth-generation Prelude will return to the U.S. market in 2025, following earlier announcements and teasers. The hybrid-electric coupe, which debuted in 2023 at the Japan Mobility Show and was later showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show, maintains a sleek, athletic design. Spy shots of a pre-production model testing in Germany confirm the car’s visual continuity with earlier concepts. While Honda has not disclosed full technical specifications, the new Prelude will feature the company’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain, likely based on the Civic Hybrid’s system, which combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors to produce 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque.
One standout feature of the new Prelude will be the Honda S+ Shift, a drive mode designed to enhance the driving experience. This system is expected to offer precise control over engine RPM during acceleration and deceleration, providing a more engaging driving experience with sharper gear shifts. The S+ Shift mode also integrates an Active Sound System, which uses the car’s speakers to amplify engine noise, further heightening the driver’s sensory connection to the car. Despite the e:HEV powertrain not using a traditional mechanical transmission, the S+ Shift will allow drivers to use paddle shifters, simulating the feel of a conventional transmission and ensuring an enjoyable and responsive driving experience.
